🚪DOORWAYS🚪 On the way to our camping site, my husband noted that the truck were pulling to the right. He showed me that when he lets go of the steering wheel, the car wanted to go to the right on its own. After arriving at the camping site, my husband did a cursory inspection of the truck but could see nothing wrong. The next day we wanted to visit a nearby town. On a lonely gravel road, the trouble began. Soon my husband couldn't steer the vehicle anymore. We stopped next to the road and then we discovered the problem. A bold holding the suspension to the body was gone...probably broken off. The wheel was standing completely crooked. We have a fairly complete toolbox, but we did not have any bolts of that size. We jacked up the car, took of the wheel and then started looking at the problem. We had nothing to fix the vehicle with. We were stranded next to a gravel road with no idea what to do. An old, rattling red truck came around the corner and when they saw us next to the road the immediately stopped. It had 4 men in the truck. My husband explained what happened. The miracle was...they had spares in their truck. They explained that the gravel roads is bad for suspensions, so they always carry spares and knew what to do. Within minutes a knew bold was fitted and the field repair was finished. The four Samaritans surely saved our bacon that day! To this day I'm so grateful for them arriving like angels from heaven. These photos were taken next to a ruin just outside Oudtshoorn. We were on our way to have the suspension fixed when we drove past this ruin. We just had to stop and take some photos. 🌹FLOWERS FOR HER💐 Last week we took a day to go on a short trip. We wanted to re-visit one particular ruin. When we got there, we couldn't get access to the ruin. We were not in our truck and didn't want to damage the car we borrowed. We drove around for a bit and discovered this ruin. We've seen it from the highway before, but never knew how to reach it. As luck would have it, the dirt road we were driving on passed this particular ruin. We spend a few hours here, got some photos, made some videos and drank a few beers. It was nice exploring a new...old?...ruin. I loved this mural in the back. The little boy wants to give the girl some flowers, but what does she want to give him? I only saw the shocking truth this morning working on the photos! I didn't even notice it while we were taking photos! Can you see what she wants to give him? 🕰️Throwback Thursday⏲️ aka 🕰️Small Boobies Thursday⏲️ A long time ago On a road far, far away... I think one of the best things that the photography hobby has brought into our lives is travelling. And because we made a point of travelling "of the beaten track", we saw some awesome roads, scary passes, roads to nowhere and roads that haven't been driven in many years. And we loved every minute. There were so many times we got lost, or the road just ended, and we had to backtrack. We often ended up arriving at our camping site late in the night because of that. 💧Wet-nes-day - Be Like Water🌊 This was taken at our last night on a long camping trip. We've camped here before, so we decided to just drop in. When we had to pay, the shock nearly gave me a heart attack. The price has more than doubled since the last time we stayed there😯! But we were tired and decided to bite the bullet. 😇BE POSITIVE✨ As some of you know, this is the ruins of our honeymoon hotel. This is the rooms in main building of the hotel. In these rooms, royalty in the form of then Princess Elizabeth, once stayed. Just doing a bit of research today, I found another reason why it closed down. A sad story about red tape and bureaucracy at play. The last lessee, the Kapp family, had wanted to upgrade and re-furbish the hotel in the 1990s. The owners, the Natal Parks Board (later to become Ezemvelo), was not willing to negotiate a long-term lease. With the family's 20-year-old lease up in 2000, they were not ready to run the hotel on a month-to-month basis. The Natal Parks Board had advertised that the hotel was closing down, and because of that, bookings dried up. A year later the Natal Parks Board changed its mind and asked if the Kapp family would renew the lease. But by then, the hotel had lost its market share and it was all too late. When you see everything falling down And there's nothing you can do. Stay positive, even in a negative situation... 🔦A DEPRESSING SUNDAY🕯️ We, here in darkest Africa, are going through a very dark time indeed. We had power cuts from 6am this morning and the power only came on at 10am. It will go off again at 2pm until 6pm. So, in a period 12 hours we only have 4 hours to wash clothes, make food and post photos for all my fans! A dark shit show indeed. Things are really falling apart in South Africa. And all news reports say it will get worse soon. Just as we are heading into winter... It is going to be a cold and dark winter indeed. 🕰️ THROWBACK THURSDAY ⏰ - 13 Years Ago - This, my friends, was a very long day. This was day 3 of a trip we did to Cape Town. This day we travelled 1400km, 870 miles! We left early in the morning out of Oudtshoorn, where we slept in the back of our car on a mattress. It was a Nissan Grand Livina station wagon. It was a tight fit for us, but then we like to sleep close to each other😉. We drove over the Swartbergpas (Black Mountain Pass) through the town of Prince Albert to the N1 that would take us to CT. Along the route we made history by taking the 50 000th photo of me🥳! This set was taken at a ruin right next to the N1. We thought we were not going to do another photoshoot that day. But when we saw these ruins, we just had to stop. Needless to say, we arrived in CT very late that evening! So, this morning I looked on the maps where these photos was taken. And I noticed something interesting... The ruins are gone! Sometime between 2010 and 2015 they were completely demolished😢. 🪟THROUGH THE WINDOW🪟 If hearts were more like windows, that we could see inside, all of our scars would be visible, no hidden truths, no lies could hide. 🌲Fallen Heroes🌲 When you take a drive on the gravel roads in Sabie, you find a lot of these piles of wood right next to the road. Sabie is mostly pine forests and the wood get harvested from time to time. And because I love sitting on hard wood...err...old hard wood😉, we always have to stop for a photoshoot. And of course it is the perfect spot for a beer. I hope you had a great long weekend.
